Introducing Aegis: Next-Generation Encryption for Bardo

We are announcing Aegis, a new encryption protocol for exporting notes in Bardo 1.0.

With this change, Split and Quant will be retired. Quant is now outdated and no longer meets our security standards due to identified protection issues and architectural weaknesses.

Aegis uses a new binary format designed specifically for note export. It is built around Argon2id key derivation, AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption, KEK/CEK key separation, chunked processing for large exports, and GZIP compression before encryption.

Aegis will become the default protocol for exporting all notes in Bardo 1.0.
