Bardo Android – Privacy Policy & Terms of Service

What changed: Anonymous analytics, telemetry, and consent-based processing have been removed from the app and from this policy. This version also documents Bardo Marketplace, TypexAI Cloud, self-hosted Supabase and WebDAV sync, Bardo Plus purchase verification, GDPR legal bases, international transfers, user rights, children, and revised retention and liability sections.

At TypexAI, transparency is a core part of how Bardo Android is designed. We believe users should clearly understand how the app works, what data is processed, what remains under the user's control, and where responsibility begins and ends.

This document serves as both the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service for Bardo Android, including Bardo Marketplace, TypexAI Cloud, and the other features described below. By using the Bardo Android application, you agree to these terms.

1. Local-First Design and Encryption

Bardo Android is built around a privacy-first, local-first philosophy. By default, you create, store, and manage your notes, lists, and related content on your device. The app works without an account and without a network connection.

Cloud sync is optional. Nothing leaves your device for sync until you turn it on and choose a provider: TypexAI Cloud, your own Supabase server, or a WebDAV server. Section 6 explains how each option works.

TypexAI does not use your private note content for advertising, profiling, telemetry, or general analytics. If you use TypexAI Cloud, Bardo Android encrypts your notes on your device before upload, and TypexAI stores only encrypted data that it cannot read.

Where encryption is used within Bardo Android, it is designed to protect user content before it becomes accessible to anyone else. In practice, this means that your private data is intended to remain under your control, not under the control of TypexAI.

Bardo Android is designed so that private content is not routinely readable by TypexAI. If certain protected data becomes inaccessible because of forgotten passwords, lost recovery codes, or lost decryption material, that access may be permanently unrecoverable.

Bardo Marketplace works differently, because publishing there is a public act. Templates and themes you publish become visible to everyone and are stored unencrypted so they can be moderated. Section 7 covers this in detail.

2. Limited Server-Side Processing

Bardo Android uses TypexAI infrastructure only for specific purposes:

  • security protection and abuse prevention;
  • TypexAI Cloud encrypted sync, if you use it;
  • Bardo Marketplace, if you browse, download, rate, or publish templates and themes;
  • verification of Bardo Plus purchases;
  • basic service reliability.

TypexAI servers do not read, analyze, or profile your private note content. The only note data TypexAI stores on your behalf is the encrypted data you choose to sync through TypexAI Cloud.

Communication with TypexAI infrastructure is protected using encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and reasonable technical security measures.

3. Data Minimization

TypexAI follows a principle of strict data minimization. We do not collect more information than is reasonably necessary to operate Bardo Android and the features you choose to use.

Depending on the features you use, this may include:

  • app or device-related technical information necessary for compatibility and security;
  • basic operational metadata, such as timestamps, version information, or security-related logs;
  • encrypted note data and sync metadata, only if you use TypexAI Cloud;
  • your Marketplace nickname, the templates and themes you publish, and related ratings and statistics, only if you use Bardo Marketplace;
  • purchase verification data provided by Google Play, only if you buy Bardo Plus.

We do not treat your private note content as general-purpose business data, and we do not use your private content for advertising profiling.

4. No Analytics or Tracking

Bardo Android does not include usage analytics, telemetry, advertising SDKs, or tracking tools. The app does not send TypexAI reports about which features you use, how often you open it, or what you do inside it.

Google Play may provide TypexAI with aggregated statistics, such as install counts, ratings, and crash reports from users who allow Google to share diagnostic data. Google collects this data under its own policies, and it does not include your note content.

Bardo Marketplace keeps install counts, view counts, and ratings for published templates and themes. These are public counters attached to each item, described in Section 7.2, and they do not track what you do in the app.

5. Legal Bases for Processing

For users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, TypexAI processes personal data on the following legal bases:

  • performance of a contract, for TypexAI Cloud, Bardo Marketplace, and Bardo Plus;
  • legitimate interests, for security, abuse prevention, content moderation, and service reliability;
  • legal obligation, where we must respond to lawful requests from authorities or act on illegal content.

6. Cloud Sync

Bardo Android offers three optional ways to sync your notes between devices. You can use Bardo Android without any of them.

6.1 TypexAI Cloud

TypexAI Cloud is the sync service operated by TypexAI and included with Bardo Plus.

Bardo Android encrypts your notes, lists, and related content on your device before sending them to TypexAI Cloud. The keys needed to decrypt this data stay on your devices. TypexAI stores only encrypted data and cannot read your note content.

To operate the service, TypexAI Cloud stores:

  • your encrypted note data;
  • an account identifier and the authentication data needed to connect your devices;
  • sync metadata, such as item identifiers, timestamps, data sizes, and device sync state;
  • the status of your Bardo Plus entitlement.

TypexAI uses this data only to provide sync. We do not analyze it, sell it, or share it with anyone except the hosting providers that store it on our behalf.

Because TypexAI cannot decrypt your data, TypexAI cannot restore your notes if you lose your encryption keys or passwords. Keep them somewhere safe.

You can stop syncing at any time in the app settings, and you can delete your TypexAI Cloud data. When you delete it, TypexAI removes it from active systems within 30 days. If your Bardo Plus subscription ends, TypexAI may delete your TypexAI Cloud data after a grace period. In both cases, notes stored on your device stay on your device.

6.2 Your Own Supabase Server

You can connect Bardo Android to a Supabase project that you create and control. In this setup:

  • you enter your Supabase project URL and API key in Bardo Android, and the app stores them only on your device;
  • Bardo Android sends your notes directly from your device to your Supabase project;
  • TypexAI does not receive, store, or have access to your Supabase credentials or the data you sync there.

TypexAI is not a party to this sync and does not process your synced data. You control that data, and you are responsible for:

  • securing your Supabase project, including access keys and row-level security rules;
  • backups of the data stored in your project;
  • the costs, limits, and terms of your Supabase account.

Anyone with administrative access to your Supabase project may be able to read the data stored there, unless Bardo Android encrypted it before upload. Protect your project accordingly.

Supabase is a third-party service. Your agreement with Supabase governs your use of it, and TypexAI is not responsible for its availability, security, or data handling.

6.3 WebDAV Sync

You can also sync with a WebDAV server of your choice. The same principles apply as with your own Supabase server: Bardo Android stores the server address and credentials only on your device, sends data directly to your server, and TypexAI has no access to that data. You are responsible for the security and reliability of your WebDAV server and for the terms of whoever operates it.

7. Bardo Marketplace

Bardo Marketplace launches on September 19, 2026, for all Bardo Android users on both Free and Plus plans. It lets you browse, download, and rate templates and themes created by other users, and publish your own.

We built the marketplace around three things: your privacy, compliance with these terms, and moderation of everything that gets published.

7.1 Accounts

You can browse and download without an account. To publish, you create an account by choosing a nickname. We do not ask for an email address, password, phone number, or real name, and nothing links the account to your identity.

Your nickname is public. Other users see it next to your templates and themes. Do not use your real name or other personal information as your nickname.

Your account lives on your device only. If you uninstall Bardo Android or clear its data, you lose the account permanently. TypexAI cannot recover or transfer it, because we have no way to verify who owns it. Write your nickname down if it matters to you.

7.2 What We Store

When you use Bardo Marketplace, TypexAI stores:

  • your nickname and an internal account identifier;
  • the templates and themes you publish, including titles, descriptions, and previews;
  • publication dates and moderation results;
  • install counts, view counts, and ratings for each published item;
  • daily publishing counters used to enforce the limits in Section 7.5.

Published templates and themes are stored unencrypted on TypexAI servers. This allows automated and manual moderation, and published items are public by nature. Do not include personal data, private notes, passwords, or anything you would not want strangers to read.

Like any web server, marketplace servers observe the IP address of incoming requests. TypexAI may keep IP addresses in security logs for a limited period to fight abuse, flooding, and illegal content. We do not use them to build profiles.

Install and view counts are aggregate numbers. Creators see statistics only for their own published work.

7.3 Moderation

Every template and theme goes through three automated checks before it appears in the marketplace:

  1. TypexAI's own algorithms screen the submission for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and terrorist propaganda.
  2. OpenAI's Omni Moderation model checks it for harmful content.
  3. OpenAI's GPT-5 Nano model checks it for spam and other prohibited content.

A template or theme is published only after it clears all three stages. Decisions at this stage are made automatically.

After publication, TypexAI staff may review any published item manually and remove it if it breaks these terms.

We do not want CSAM, instructions for terrorism or for biological, chemical, nuclear, or explosive weapons, or anything similar in the marketplace, and we would rather over-check than let something through. The system may therefore reject harmless content from time to time. Section 7.7 explains how to contest a decision.

If we find CSAM or content that suggests a threat to someone's life or safety, we block it, preserve the relevant data, and report it to law enforcement or to organizations authorized to receive such reports, as required or permitted by law. We terminate the account involved.

7.4 Data Shared with OpenAI

During moderation, TypexAI sends the content of the submitted template or theme, including its title and description, to OpenAI through the OpenAI API. We do not send your nickname or account identifier.

OpenAI processes this data as a service provider to TypexAI under its API terms. Under those terms, OpenAI does not use API data to train its models by default and may retain it for a limited period for abuse monitoring. OpenAI is based in the United States. Section 16 describes how we handle international transfers.

Bardo Android never sends your private notes to moderation. Only content you submit for publication goes through this process.

7.5 Publishing Limits

One account can publish up to 20 templates and 100 themes per day. The limit keeps the marketplace clean and stops automated flooding. Normal use will never come close to it.

7.6 Content Rules and License

You may publish only content that you created or have the right to share. You may not publish:

  • child sexual abuse material or any sexual content involving minors;
  • terrorist content or propaganda;
  • instructions for making biological, chemical, nuclear, radiological, or explosive weapons;
  • spam, advertising, scams, or misleading content;
  • malicious code, links to malware, or phishing;
  • hate speech, harassment, or threats;
  • personal data of other people without their permission;
  • content that infringes copyright, trademarks, or other rights;
  • any other content that is illegal in your country or in the European Union.

You keep ownership of what you publish. By publishing a template or theme, you grant TypexAI a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, moderate, and distribute it through Bardo Marketplace. You also grant other Bardo users a non-exclusive license to download it and use it within Bardo.

Other users create the templates and themes in the marketplace. TypexAI provides them as is and does not guarantee their quality, accuracy, or suitability for your purposes.

7.7 Reporting, Removal, and Appeals

If you find a template or theme that breaks these rules or the law, report it to legal@typexai.dev with the item name, the creator's nickname, and a short explanation. We review every report and remove content that breaks these terms or the law.

When TypexAI rejects or removes your content, Bardo Android shows you a notice with the reason where technically possible. If you think we made a mistake, write to support@typexai.dev with your nickname and the item name, and a person will review the decision.

TypexAI may restrict or terminate marketplace accounts that repeatedly publish prohibited content or try to bypass moderation or publishing limits.

7.8 Deleting Your Account

You can delete your marketplace account at any time in the app by entering your nickname. When you do, TypexAI deletes your account and removes the templates and themes you published from the marketplace.

Copies that other users already downloaded stay on their devices, and TypexAI cannot remove them. TypexAI may keep records related to removed illegal content or reported abuse where the law requires it.

8. Bardo Plus and Payments

Bardo Plus is an optional paid plan with monthly and lifetime options. Google Play processes all payments, and TypexAI never receives your card number or payment details.

To confirm your purchase and unlock Plus features, TypexAI receives purchase verification data from Google Play, such as a purchase token, product identifier, and subscription status. Google's privacy policy governs the data Google collects during payment.

You can manage or cancel your subscription in Google Play. Refunds follow Google Play's refund policies and applicable consumer law.

9. User Responsibility for Passwords, Keys, and Access

By using Bardo Android, you acknowledge and agree that you are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your passwords, recovery codes, encryption keys, and any other access mechanisms associated with the app. This includes the encryption keys for TypexAI Cloud, the credentials for your own Supabase or WebDAV server, and your Bardo Marketplace account.

In the vast majority of software products, including privacy-oriented applications, end-user terms generally place responsibility for password and key retention on the user. Bardo Android follows the same principle.

If you lose access to your passwords, recovery codes, or decryption material, TypexAI may be unable to restore access to your protected data. This is not a support limitation alone; it may be a technical limitation inherent to how the product is designed.

Accordingly:

  • TypexAI does not guarantee recovery of inaccessible user data;
  • TypexAI is not responsible for data loss resulting from forgotten passwords, lost keys, lost recovery codes, or other user-side access failures;
  • you are responsible for securely storing any passwords, keys, or recovery information provided or generated by the app.

10. Data Loss and Recovery Limitations

Because Bardo Android is designed to prioritize user control and privacy, there may be situations where protected content cannot be restored once access is lost.

This means that if you forget or lose the passwords, recovery codes, or keys required to unlock protected areas or encrypted content, TypexAI may have no technical means to recover that content for you. The same applies to encrypted data stored in TypexAI Cloud and to Bardo Marketplace accounts lost after uninstalling the app or clearing its data.

By using Bardo Android, you understand and accept this architectural limitation.

11. Data Retention

Your notes and related content in Bardo Android are stored on your device. If you use TypexAI Cloud, TypexAI keeps your encrypted data until you delete it, or until your Bardo Plus subscription ends and the grace period described in Section 6.1 passes. Backups may keep deleted data for up to 30 days before they are overwritten.

Data you sync to your own Supabase or WebDAV server stays there for as long as you keep it. TypexAI has no control over it.

TypexAI keeps published marketplace templates and themes until you delete them or your account, or until TypexAI removes them. Aggregate statistics may remain in anonymized form.

You are responsible for backups, exports, and any copies you make outside the app. Uninstalling Bardo Android or clearing app data may permanently delete local content that is not otherwise saved by you.

Limited security or operational records may be processed and retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for fraud prevention, legal compliance, service reliability, or dispute handling.

12. AI Features

If you choose to use AI-related features within Bardo Android, your use of those features may involve interaction with third-party AI services selected by you or made available through the app.

Certain AI-related features may operate locally, while others may depend on external providers depending on the product configuration at the time of use.

You are responsible for reviewing and understanding any external provider terms that apply to the AI services you choose to use.

The OpenAI models TypexAI uses for Marketplace moderation are separate from the AI features you use inside the app. They only process content you submit for publication, as described in Section 7.4.

13. DarkCode Experimental Technology

DarkCode is an experimental data encoding and transfer technology associated with the Bardo ecosystem. It is intended for research, testing, offline transfer, and lawful productivity-related use only.

DarkCode may be incomplete, limited, unstable, inaccurate in some scenarios, unavailable in certain app versions, or modified or removed at any time without notice.

Any public references to DarkCode, including research pages, prototype materials, repositories, or demonstrations, should not be interpreted as a guarantee of commercial readiness, general availability, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, or long-term support.

Where DarkCode is referenced together with encryption or protected transfer workflows, users remain solely responsible for how they use that functionality and for preserving any passwords, keys, or related access material.

TypexAI reserves the right to restrict, delay, modify, limit, or withhold broader release of DarkCode or related decoding functionality where necessary for safety, abuse prevention, technical reasons, legal reasons, or product integrity.

14. Acceptable Use

Bardo Android is provided as a neutral software tool for note-taking, organization, and related productivity purposes.

You agree not to use Bardo Android, DarkCode, Bardo Marketplace, TypexAI Cloud, or any related functionality for unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, abusive, deceptive, evasive, or unauthorized purposes.

This includes, without limitation, using the app or related technologies to store, encode, conceal, transfer, or manage content connected to illegal activity, attempts to evade lawful restrictions, malicious conduct, harassment, fraud, or the distribution of unlawful material.

The content rules in Section 7.6 apply to everything you publish to Bardo Marketplace.

TypexAI reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or terminate access to features where misuse, abuse, security risk, or violation of these terms is reasonably suspected.

You remain solely responsible for the content you create, store, import, export, publish, or manage through the application.

15. Third-Party Infrastructure and Services

Bardo Android relies on third-party providers for limited operational purposes:

  • server hosting providers, which host TypexAI infrastructure, including encrypted TypexAI Cloud data and Bardo Marketplace;
  • OpenAI, for automated moderation of Bardo Marketplace submissions;
  • Google Play, for app distribution and Bardo Plus payments.

These providers process data only in connection with the limited purposes described in this policy. This does not mean that TypexAI stores your private note content on those services in readable form.

Supabase projects and WebDAV servers you connect yourself are your own providers, not TypexAI's. TypexAI does not select them, pay for them, or have access to them.

16. International Data Transfers

Some providers, including OpenAI and some hosting providers, may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, TypexAI relies on appropriate safeguards, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

17. Your Rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to:

  • access the personal data TypexAI holds about you;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • request deletion of your data;
  • restrict or object to processing;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

You can delete most of your data yourself in the app: delete your TypexAI Cloud data or your marketplace account. For other requests, write to legal@typexai.dev. We respond within one month.

Nickname-based marketplace accounts are not linked to your identity. For that reason, TypexAI may be unable to find data that relates to you, or to verify that a marketplace account belongs to you. For marketplace requests, include your nickname, and we may ask you to confirm the request from the app.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, such as the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate (Andmekaitse Inspektsioon) or the authority in your country.

18. Children

Bardo Android is not directed at children under 13. You must be at least 13, or older if the law of your country requires it, to publish in Bardo Marketplace or use TypexAI Cloud. If you believe a child has provided personal data to TypexAI, contact legal@typexai.dev and we will delete it.

19. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TypexAI, its creators, affiliates, and contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising from or relating to:

  • your use of Bardo Android;
  • your inability to access Bardo Android or certain content;
  • loss of passwords, recovery codes, or encryption keys;
  • corruption, deletion, or permanent inaccessibility of data;
  • user error, device failure, third-party platform issues, or misuse of the app;
  • availability or interruption of TypexAI Cloud, or of Supabase, WebDAV, or other third-party services you choose to connect;
  • templates, themes, or other content published by other users in Bardo Marketplace;
  • moderation decisions, including the rejection or removal of content.

This limitation applies even if TypexAI has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

20. No Guarantee of Universal Recovery or Intervention

You understand that TypexAI is not obligated, and may not be technically capable, to recover, unlock, reconstruct, or otherwise restore protected user content.

Nothing in this policy or in the Bardo Android experience should be interpreted as a promise that lost access can always be reversed.

21. Changes to These Terms

TypexAI may update this Privacy Policy and Terms of Service from time to time in order to reflect Bardo Android product changes, legal requirements, security improvements, operational updates, or changes to TypexAI Cloud or Bardo Marketplace.

When changes are made, the updated version will be published with a revised “Last Updated” date.
